Liz Pyle is an artist and illustrator. She studied at Philadelphia College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London and has lived and worked on both sides of the Atlantic. She is widely recognized as one of the foremost illustrators working today. Well known for her powerful use of colour, inventive figuration, and ability to capture an atmosphere, she has illustrated numerous book and magazine covers, cd’s, posters, newspapers and several children’s books including most recently Cloudsailors by Hugh Montgomery for Walker Books.

A long-standing interest in science and man’s place in the natural world is reflected in her illustrations for The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, Folk Tales from Around the World for Belitha press and the Oxford Treasury of World Stories for Oxford University Press.

Her landscape work is concerned with the drama of the elements in the natural world, the play of light upon natural forms, shifting weather patterns and the cycle of dawn and nightfall. Images are created using layers of pigment carefully built up and carved back in a process reminiscent of the landscape itself.

Her work is in both public and private collections worldwide.
